MELBOURNE, FLORIDA
Florida Tech University administrators embarked on this cafeteria renovation with plans to create a space that would not only be enticing to dine at; but also serve as a multi-functional space that could accommodate faculty meetings, student gatherings, presentation, and public/corporate events. Originally, the existing campus cafeteria was both outdated and underutilized – and administrators believed that a cafeteria “makeover” would breathe new life into its operations.
FCI created a layout that included custom, radius booth seating around the inside parameters of the room with ample table space for meal and study time. In this area, FCI also designed and built suspended ceiling soffits, and custom restaurant decor to deliver and end-product with real, food court appeal.
Fold-and-roll tables were staggered throughout the center of the cafeteria to accommodate large groups of students at meal times; yet provide the versatility needed to transform the space for special events.
Tablet-equipped lounge seating was designed around the outer edge of the cafeteria. This space, which overlooks campus grounds, created an ideal setting for small group collaboration, social interaction, and simply a comfortable spot for commuters to spend time between classes.
The result of this project was an environment that emulated the look, feel, and purpose of this cafeteria-to-food court transformation. This successful endeavor led to a partnership with FCI on new interior projects as Florida Tech continues to create a welcoming, comfortable, and high-tech learning environment for their students and faculty.
